Diya Bheemaiah selected for World Junior Badminton

Diya Bheemaiah of Kodagu has been selected to represent India at the BWF World Junior Badminton Championships to be held in Cairo, Egypt, from Oct. 5 to 7.

In the selection trials conducted at the National Centre of Excellence (NCE) Badminton Academy from Sept. 18 to 21, Boppanda Diya Bheemaiah teamed up with Haryana’s Baruni Parshwal, putting on an exceptional performance to claim the available spot.

Having already represented the country in this year’s Asian Championships (Japan), the Dutch and German Junior Internationals, Diya will represent the country at the prestigious World Junior Badminton. She currently training at the Badminton Association of India’s National Centre for Excellence (NCE) in Guwahati, Assam.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Diya Bheemaiah said, “I feel very happy to be selected for the Indian team. I am proud to have represented the country in three major tournaments including the German Open, Dutch Open, Asian Games this year and now at the BWF Junior World Championship.”

A resident of Rajarajeshwarinagar in Mysuru, Diya’s father, B.B. Bheemaiah, is a badminton coach while her mother, K.K. Kusuma (Kambiranda), a former international athlete, works as a fitness coach. Diya’s younger brother, B.B. Vishal Uthappa, is also a badminton player.

Diya Bheemaiah Wins Girls’ Doubles Title

Second seeded pair Diya Bheemaiah and Baruni Parshwal won the Girls’ Doubles title at the Kotak Junior International Badminton Tournament in Hyderabad, defeating third seeds Lakshmi Devineni and Ananya Manikandan in a closely contested final.

Diya and Baruni won the match 21-18, 14-21, 22-20. After taking the opening game, they lost the second as Devineni and Manikandan levelled the contest. The deciding game went down to the wire, with Diya and Baruni eventually prevailing 22-20 to secure the title.

The victory marks another achievement for Diya on the junior badminton circuit as she continues her competitive journey. She currently is training at the prestigious National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) in Guwahati, Assam, under the tutelage of former All England champion and coach Ivan Sozonov.

Diya is the daughter of Boppanda P Bheemaiah and Kusuma K K (Thamane Kambiranda).

Yonex-Sunrise All India Junior (U-19) Ranking Badminton Tournament 2026 : Diya Bheemaiah of Kodagu clinches doubles title

To represent India in the Asian Junior Championships

Mysuru:

Diya Bheemaiah, a native of Kodagu and India’s top-seed junior player, secured the Girls’ Doubles title at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Junior (U-19) Ranking Badminton Tournament 2026 held at the Karnataka Badminton Academy in Vasanthnagar, Bengaluru recently.

Partnering with Baruni Paruswal of Haryana, Diya clinched the title by defeating the Tamil Nadu duo of A.S. Anushka Jennifer   and Deeshitha Singha Gopinath Singh in straight-sets 21-10, 22-20.

This victory also earned Diya a direct spot to represent the Indian Junior Team at the upcoming Badminton Asian Junior Championships – 2026 to be held in Yatsushiro, Japan, from June 26 to July 5.

Furthermore, her performance has secured her a place in the selection process to represent the Indian Junior squad in the Mixed Doubles category as well. Diya is the daughter of Boppanda B. Bheemaiah, a badminton coach and K.K. Kusuma, a fitness coach,  residing in Mysuru.
