Gulshan Devaiah began his career in Bollywood, like the majority of newcomers from outside the industry, with few roles. Nevertheless, Gulshan’s performance was well-received by the audience as well as the critics. And he once again enchanted his fans with his most recent part in the web series ‘Duranga’.

Duranga is a suspense series that warrants your attention, and we’ll explain why. One of the most well-liked genres of television shows and films today is a thriller. Who doesn’t love the suspense and terrifying anticipation of what will happen next? The unfolding of the events keep you on the edge of your seat. Without further ado, let’s dive right into it!

Reasons Why Duranga Is Worth Your Time!

The Duranga Plot Will Keep You Hooked Until The End

It is based on Sammit Patel and Ira’s story. Ira starts looking into several killings committed by a person she believes to be a serial killer’s accomplice, and as a result, she learns some shocking information about her husband’s dark background.

One is kept fairly engrossed in the story and on the edge of their seat by the writing and plot. The length of the episode is critical because thrillers frequently suffer from the risk of being stretched out a little too much, the duration of Duranga is just right for you to keeping yourself interested.

The series avoids trying anything new and succeeds in producing the same impression as the original with a compelling narrative and a crisp screenplay.

The Interesting Choice Of Cast

Gulshan Devaiah As Sammit Patel

Gulshan Devaiah gives his greatest effort yet in Duranga. Gulshan gives a convincing performance as a reserved character who doesn’t experience love, happiness, or grief and uses online courses to learn to grin or cry. He has aced his acting skills with each project he has done and is such an underestimated actor who deserves your time.

Drashti Dhami As Ira

Drashti Dhami, who plays a cop alongside Gulshan, has established herself in Hindi television dramas, and this is the first time she has performed such an intense and badass part of a cop, carrying a very strong character brilliantly; she has never been seen portraying a role this harsh.

The relationship between Drashti and Gulshan is not particularly endearing, but given the diametrically opposed nature of their characters, it nevertheless manages to explain the lack of blandness.

It is difficult to develop and maintain a career in the film industry, which may be ruthless at times. Gulshan, who has been a part of Bollywood for over a decade, believes that ‘being good is not enough.’

The idea that hard effort helps you sustain and that being competent at your craft is enough is appealing, but it is fiction. Gulshan believes that as an actor, one must learn to build relationships and be in the right place at the right moment.

Here are some characters played by Gulshan that need your attention

1. Ghost Stories

Despite having only 10 minutes of screen time and wearing unrecognisable make-up, the actor received some of the greatest accolades of his career for the character of a village strongman who transforms into the alpha zombie in the horror film Ghost Stories. Devaiah recalls Karan Johar and Reema Kagti complimenting Gulshan for his spooky act. Gulshan had no expectations from the movie and wasn’t sure he would be recognised at all.

Most performers would have turned down the role owing to the limited screen time or unrecognisable makeup. However, we are confident that Gulshan chose craft over fame in this role.

2. Afsos

In Afsos, Gulshan plays Nakul, a writer with chronic depression who hires an assassin to kill him after 11 unsuccessful suicide attempts. The plot is unusual; for example, have you heard of someone who is sick of trying to commit suicide hiring a hitman to help them? Anyways, things go wrong when Nakul decides to cancel the assignment after falling in love with his therapist.

3. Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela

For Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Ram Leela,” Gulshan appears in a brand-new appearance. In the film, the gifted actor plays the adversary. The character played by Gulshan is a famous member of the Jadeja clan, a group of Chandrivanshi Rajputs who currently reside in Kutch, Gujarat.

4. Footfairy

A monster who suffocates young girls and slices off their exquisite feet to keep as his mementos is the subject of the psychological thriller. Gulshan Devaiah portrays CBI officer Vivaan Deshmukh, who trusts his intuition over anything else. He presents himself as an assured police officer. It was incredible that a film made in 2020 captured people’s attention in 2022 with an OTT distribution on Netflix.

5. Badhaai Do

The unexpected component of Badhaai Do is Gulshan Devaiah. The actor who portrays Rajkummar Rao’s love interest in the movie, Guru Narayan, is a lawyer. His character is such a fantastic representation of the LGBTQIA population that is not ashamed to be ‘Gay.’ Though Guru’s character appears for a little moment, he plays an important role in the film.

6. Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota

In Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, Gulshan plays the character of Karate Mani and Jimmy and is a laughing stock. It was pure joy to witness him flawlessly portray two utterly different personalities in a double role.

7. Shaitaan

Shaitan was one of the first projects to bring Gulshan the attention he deserved. It was a crime thriller, which was highly opposite of what Bollywood thought of these genres. He portrays the slightly insane, affluent brat Karan ‘KC’ Chaudhary, and his diabolical intensity in the part drew many fans.

Rasika Duggal and Gulshan Devaiah’s ‘Little Thomas’ Scores Big with 3 Awards

Little Thomas, a heartwarming comedy-drama featuring Rasika Duggal and Gulshan Devaiah, has garnered significant recognition at the upcoming 25th New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF).

The film has received three nominations: Best Actor for Gulshan Devaiah, Best Actress for Rasika Duggal, and Best Debut Feature for director Kaushal Oza. The film’s producers, Ranjan Singh and Anurag Kashyap, are excited to showcase their work at this prestigious festival.

Excitement Surrounds Nominations

Rasika Duggal expressed her joy at being nominated for Best Actress for her role as Jessie Miranda in Little Thomas. The film tells the story of a seven-year-old boy who is determined to unite his parents and wishes for a little brother. Rasika stated, “I am grateful that the work is being noted and appreciated, and I am looking forward to the response of the audience when the film is screened at the festival.” She emphasized the importance of audience feedback at film festivals, noting that they often provide discerning insights into the work presented.

Gulshan Devaiah, nominated for Best Actor, shared his excitement about the recognition from the NYIFF jury. He expressed his eagerness to attend the festival and his hopes for winning the award. “I am excited and happy with the nomination that the NYIFF jury has considered me for as the Best Actor for Little Thomas,” he said.

Director’s Thrill at Recognition

Kaushal Oza, the film’s director, expressed his delight at the nominations, particularly for the Best Debut Film category. Oza, who has previously collaborated with Anurag Kashyap on notable projects, shared his excitement about returning to NYIFF after the world premiere of his short film, The Miniaturist of Junagadh. He remarked, “This time I am delighted that ‘Little Thomas’ has been nominated at the same festival for the Best Debut Film… What really puts the cherry on the cake is the nominations for both the actors as well!”

The film, produced under the banners of Luminoso Pictures, Civic Studios, Flip Films, and Good Bad Films, had its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne last year. It has since been showcased at other festivals, including the Toronto Indian Film Festival and Chandigarh Cine-Vesture.

A Glimpse into the Film’s Story

Set against the backdrop of 1990s Goa, Little Thomas follows the journey of a young boy named Thomas, who longs for a sibling. The film’s synopsis reveals that Thomas believes the key to getting a baby brother lies in his parents sharing a kiss. With his parents frequently arguing and no longer affectionate, Thomas takes it upon himself to orchestrate the “yucky act” he believes is necessary to fulfill his wish. This charming premise sets the stage for a comedic exploration of family dynamics and childhood innocence.

Exclusive: Gulshan Devaiah on his bond with Sanjay Leela Bhansali

A few months back, the actor known for his work in Ram Leela and Dahaad, Gulshan Devaiah spoke to Filmfare. He was honest and did not shy away from answering questions about his relationship with his ex-wife, his equation with Anurag Kashyap and his overall journey in the industry.

When asked about his equation with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his experience of working with him, the actor said, “ People say Sanjay Leela Bhansali has a short temper, but this is not the case. Like other directors, he does not communicate openly with you. People are hesitant to talk to him. But I would share my ideas with him without hesitation.”

He further went on to add, “He became fond of me. He’d listen to me. He pays close attention to detail. He takes an entire day to frame a single shot. Perhaps some would find this strange, but when the film is finished, the meticulous detailing stands out. As an actor, he allows you to do whatever you want. However, during editing, he will only retain what he has instructed you to do, not what you have done on your own.”

Now, the actor will soon be seen in the Janhvi Kapoor starrer Ulajh. The film is directed by Sudhanshu Saria and will be released in cinemas on July 5.

Actor Gulshan Devaiah on Wednesday shared a heartwarming anecdote about his manager, Richa Bhoyar. The actor, who has been a part of unconventional cinema since his debut in Anurag Kashyap’s That Girl in Yellow Boots, expressed his gratitude for Richa’s support and revealed their unique connection.

In a Twitter post, Gulshan reminisced about the time when Richa, then a college student, unknowingly championed his film Hunterrr. Back in 2015, Richa came across the movie’s poster and instantly recommended it to her friends as a fun watch. Little did they know that their paths would cross again in the future.

Sharing the heartwarming anecdote, Gulshan Devaiah wrote, “Hello 🙂 The young lady in the picture is Richa Bhoyar. In 2015, she was 20 something years old, in college, perusing her studies. She saw the poster of Hunterrr one day & told her friends that they should go watch it in the theatre because it looks like a fun movie. She & her friends had never heard of me before that day, yet she convinced around 15 of her friends to buy tickets to watch my film. They all apparently really enjoyed the film.”

Revealing how Richa became his manager, he added, “Cut to …present day, Richa, now part of Bling Entertainment, is my manager. She has been my manager, cheerleader, confidant & friend for about 2 years now. She just told me the story about Hunterrr & it put a big smile on my face & lots of warmth in heart. She had no idea that she’d be a talent manager one day & I had no idea until she told me this story earlier today. The “power of attraction” she says 😀.. I am so happy that this is how things worked out for me. Thank you Richa & many cheers to you. Cinema Zindabad!! See y’all at the movies!!” Gulshan played the role of a sex addict in Hunterrr.

Gulshan Devaiah recently received accolades for his nuanced performance as a police officer in the Amazon Prime web series Dahaad. He will be next seen in the highly anticipated show Guns & Gulaabs, helmed by hit director duo Raj and DK. He also has Sudhanshu Saria’s Ulajh, which also stars Janhvi Kapoor and Roshan Mathew.

Mumbai:

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who is receiving a lot of positive response for his work in the recently released streaming series ‘Dahaad’, feels that as the world gets upgraded with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) with the former taking over creative jobs, it is his responsibility to support the artistes financially in lieu of their work.

Recently, Bengaluru-based caricature artiste Prasad Bhat, who is the founder of Graphicurry, reached out to Gulshan to pay a tribute to him as an actor, by caricaturing some of his iconic characters.

The actor could not accept it for free. Touched by the gesture, Gulshan commissioned the work from the artiste.

Talking about the same, Gulshan said” “If I really like something then I’m willing to pay for it. I’m very grateful & privileged to receive offers from artists to make me something for free but it’s their livelihood too and in this age of Machine Learning and AI, the least I can do is support artists by offering to pay them their rates”.

Prasad had picked Gulshan’s looks from his movies and series, like ‘Commando 3’, ‘Dahaad’, ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’, ‘Ghost Stories‘, ‘Durangaa’, ‘Badhaai Do’, ‘Hunterrr’, ‘Death in the Gunj’ and ‘That Girl in Yellow Boots’.

The actor further mentioned: “Prasad offered to make me something. I liked his idea and decided I wanted to commission him to kinda summarise my career until now with his art. I’m very happy with Prasad’s caricatures and each one of them has wonderful memories attached to them.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Gulshan who was last seen in the movie ‘8 A.M. Metro’, opposite Saiyami Kher, will soon begin filming his upcoming action thriller movie ‘Ulajh’ with Janhvi Kapoor and Malayalam star Roshan Mathew.

Why Gulshan Devaiah is called an ‘encyclopedia’ by his ‘Dahaad’ co-stars

pix: wikipedia.com

Actor Gulshan Devaiah shared an instance from the shoot days of ‘Dahaad’ and recounted how he took up the role of a ‘prompter’ for co-star Vijay Varma, and how his co-stars fondly called him an encyclopedia on set.

“There was a particular scene that was shot in a school. This was Vijay and my first scene together and it was quite an easy scene, where we have an exchange in a corridor. We shot the master/wide take and were shooting the OS (over the shoulder) close ups.”

“It was going well, and suddenly I saw Vijay searching for his line as he had forgotten his line. I was like this is such a good take for me and so I started to prompt him,” said Gulshan.

The actor added: “Now the camera was on me and not on him. It was my close up so I’m desperately trying to cover my mouth while prompting him his line. Of course, Vijay broke into a laugh!”

“There’s no way we could now use this take because whatever I was doing in order to prompt him while avoiding getting caught on camera was quite comically out of character. We had a good laugh about it and re-did the take.”

Gulshan who is tagged as a “walking encyclopedia” by his co-actors is known for remembering everything – including his co-actors’ dialogues, fun facts about random things – from food to sports.

Shoot days would often end with a fun dancing session, an impromptu karaoke, or even a friendly match of badminton. Pranks were a common occurrence and the actors and creators became a close-knit group till the end of the shoot.

Directed by Reema Kagti and Ruchika Oberoi, ‘Dahaad’ is produced by Excel Media and Entertainment and Tiger Baby with Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti as Executive Producers.

The 8-episodic series streaming on Prime Video.
