Sri Kaveri Kodava Association, Mysuru East, Kodagu Model School pay tributes to KBG

In a heartfelt tribute to Kalyatanda B. Ganapathy (KBG), Founder-Editor of Star of Mysore and Mysuru Mithra, Sri Kaveri Kodava Association, Mysuru East and Kodagu Model School held a condolence meeting at the school’s Cheethamma Hall recently.

Association members, leaders and school representatives highlighted KBG’s towering personality as a journalist, mentor and champion of  public service.

Association President Kademada M. Belliappa remembered KBG as a visionary from Kodagu, whose media platforms empowered civic awareness across Mysuru.

Former President Kanjithanda K. Aiyappa reflected on the values KBG embodied, stating, “Birth is an option, but death is predetermined.” He credited KBG with sparking the idea of Kodagu Model School.

Senior member Kakamada Subbaiah noted that KBG’s life and values continue to shape how his passing is honoured, while former President Puliyanda S. Devaiah shared personal memories of their long-standing association as neighbours, calling KBG “a guide, mentor and enterprising figure” who contributed to the School’s bylaws and resource networks.

Former Secretary Appachangada Motaiah recalled KBG’s pivotal role in overcoming early challenges in building the school, acknowledging the commitment of teacher Chowrira Prapulla and Chairperson Chowrira Seethamma, alongside his own guidance.

Former Treasurer C.M. Chengappa praised KBG’s inclusive leadership and his rare Hon. Doctorate from University of Mysore.

Head Mistress Anitha Mary recalled KBG’s genuine interest in student activities and exhibitions, while Treasurer Pattamada Charmana described him as “a fighter whose contributions                    are irreplaceable.”

Administrator Cauvery and Chairperson Seethamma acknowledged his mentorship, intellect and community reach.

Kannada teacher Hamsamati read a commemorative poem in KBG’s honour.

President Belliappa concluded the ceremony by sharing a condolence message received from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Call to preserve Kodava land, language and culture

Shree Kaveri Kodagu Mahila Sangha conducts annual cultural contests

Mysuru: 

Shree Kaveri Kodagu Mahila Sangha, Mysuru, conducted its annual cultural competitions on Apr. 13 at Kodagu Sahakara Sangha premises in Jayalakshmipuram.

Inaugurating the programme by lighting the traditional lamp, Kodagu Model School (Vidyashankar Layout, Sathagalli, Mysuru) Education Council Chairperson Chowrira Seethamma Kalaiah, who was the chief guest, spoke on preserving Kodava land, language, their unique attire, customs and traditions which are the real assets of Kodava community, whose population is dwindling alarmingly of late. Calling upon the parents and elders to impart knowledge on culture and tradition to their children, she felt for an urgent need to create awareness among youths on Kodava culture (Kodavame).

Kollira Bollamma Kuttappa, President, Kodagu Mahila Sangha, welcomed and presided.

K. Kavya Kuttappa, Vice-President; K. Bhavani Belliappa, Secretary; M. Jaya Muthappa, Treasurer; A. Tara Somaiah and P. Vimala Poonacha, Joint Secretaries; K. Pushpa Machaiah and K. Pushpa Nanaiah, Organising Secretaries and  P. Lovely Appaiah, Kodagu Mahila Sangha Advisor, were present.

Mysuru Kodava Samaja President Ponjanda A. Ganapathy, former Samaja Presidents Moovera K. Kuttappa, Kekada M. Belliappa and Kattera A. Kariappa and Kodagu Sahakara Sangha President Chambanda Nanjamma were the special invitees.

The Sangha members and their children actively participated in singing, dance, pick-and-speak and drawing competitions. 

Kaliyanda Renu Muthamma (Kodava songs, Pick & Speak), Anusha Kumar (Dance),  Vidyashree (Singing) and  Mukkaty Muthappa (Drawing) were the judges. The event concluded with prize distribution by Machanda Jaya Muthappa. Kodandera Pushpa Machaiah proposed a vote of thanks.

Get-together of Sri Kaveri Kodava Association – Mysuru East held

Mysuru:  

Sri Kaveri Kodava Association- Mysuru East hosted its annual get-together for 2024 at the Association’s Kodagu Model School premises in Vidyashanshankar Layout in city recently.

Association President Kademada M. Belliappa presided.

Dean and Managing Trustee of the Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences, Virajpet, Dr. Kanjithanda A. Sunil Muddaiah was the chief guest, accompanied by his wife Urvashi Muddaiah.

Mysuru Kodava Samaja President Ponjanda Ganapathy was the special invitee. Dr. Sunil Muddaiah was honoured at the event for his contribution towards education in Virajpet.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sunil Muddaiah lauded the Association’s efforts in advancing education and infrastructure. He praised the school’s facilities and suggested introducing training programmes for competitive exams like KAS and IAS to benefit the Kodava community youths.

Kodagu Model School Fetes Rural SSLC Topper

M. Deepali Gowda, a student of Kodagu Model School, Vidyashankar Layout, Mysuru, who emerged school topper and also a topper among rural schools in Mysuru district in the SSLC exams by securing 614/625 marks, was felicitated by the school management recently.

Kodagu Model School, run by Sri Kavery Kodava Association, Mysuru East, has secured cent percent results in SSLC this year.

Kodagu Model School Annual Day

Mysuru:

Kodagu Model School celebrated its 14th Annual Day on Dec.17 at Jilla Shikshakara Sadhana near Milk Dairy, Mysuru.

N.A. Malleshwari, BEO, Mysuru Rural, Rajini Annaiah, Corporator, H.R. Mahadevaswamy, Cluster Resource Person and Dr. M.R. Jayaprakash, retired Principal, were the chief guests.

The celebrations started with the lighting of the lamp by the guests. School President P.S. Devaiah presided. The annual report was readout by Mary Anitha, Head Mistress of the School.

The guests gave away the prizes to the students for their outstanding performance in various curricular and co-curricular activities. The SSLC topper of the academic year 2021-22 K.

Chandana Urs was felicitated by the BEO.

Speaking on the occasion, Malleshwari appreciated the performance of the School in academic and non-academic activities while Rajini Annaiah said that the School was a boon to Alanahalli cluster.

Dr. Jayaprakash said that parents and teachers must equally share the responsibility of instilling values in children at a very young age. The students gave an enthralling cultural performance and the function came to a close with the National Anthem.
