Silver Jubilee Celebration of Ramakrishnanagar ‘I’ Block Kodava Welfare Assn.

Mysore/Mysuru:

The annual get-together and silver jubilee celebration of Ramakrishnanagar ‘I’ Block Kodava Welfare Association, Mysuru, was  held recently at Kodagu Sahakara Sangha in Jayalakshmipuram.

Association President Kodandera Puspha Machaiah presided. The event  commenced with a formal inauguration by lighting  the lamp followed by  invocation  by Mundiyolanda Nanda. Secretary Kenjangada Kariappa welcomed.

Condolences were offered to the departed members during the last one year and community extended their heartfelt condolence to the Founder-Editor of Star of Mysore K.B. Ganapathy, in recognition of his exemplary service to journalism and the Kodava  community as well as valuable contributions to the society at large. Top scorers in X standard CBSE and II PUC students of 2025 examinations were felicitated with cash prizes.

The Founder Executive Committee Members were felicitated on the occasion for their service rendered for the community.

Annual Report was presented by Treasurer Kotrangada Appanna while  Kattera A. Nanaiah, Advisor, highlighted the Association’s milestones over the last 25 years.

Maletira Ganapathy, Vice-President, proposed the vote of thanks. Codanda Swagath, Joint Secretary and all other Committee Members were present. Kotrangada Shruthy Ashwath compered.

Bags ‘Best Co-op Society’ Award

Kodagu Sahakara Sangha, Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru, has bagged the ‘Best Co-operative Society’ award for the second time at the 67th All India Co-operative Week-2020 held on Nov. 17 at Chikkaballapur.

The Sangha had earlier bagged the award during the 61st All India Co-operative Week too for its service to society in the Co-operative sector.

Call to preserve Kodava land, language and culture

Shree Kaveri Kodagu Mahila Sangha conducts annual cultural contests

Mysuru: 

Shree Kaveri Kodagu Mahila Sangha, Mysuru, conducted its annual cultural competitions on Apr. 13 at Kodagu Sahakara Sangha premises in Jayalakshmipuram.

Inaugurating the programme by lighting the traditional lamp, Kodagu Model School (Vidyashankar Layout, Sathagalli, Mysuru) Education Council Chairperson Chowrira Seethamma Kalaiah, who was the chief guest, spoke on preserving Kodava land, language, their unique attire, customs and traditions which are the real assets of Kodava community, whose population is dwindling alarmingly of late. Calling upon the parents and elders to impart knowledge on culture and tradition to their children, she felt for an urgent need to create awareness among youths on Kodava culture (Kodavame).

Kollira Bollamma Kuttappa, President, Kodagu Mahila Sangha, welcomed and presided.

K. Kavya Kuttappa, Vice-President; K. Bhavani Belliappa, Secretary; M. Jaya Muthappa, Treasurer; A. Tara Somaiah and P. Vimala Poonacha, Joint Secretaries; K. Pushpa Machaiah and K. Pushpa Nanaiah, Organising Secretaries and  P. Lovely Appaiah, Kodagu Mahila Sangha Advisor, were present.

Mysuru Kodava Samaja President Ponjanda A. Ganapathy, former Samaja Presidents Moovera K. Kuttappa, Kekada M. Belliappa and Kattera A. Kariappa and Kodagu Sahakara Sangha President Chambanda Nanjamma were the special invitees.

The Sangha members and their children actively participated in singing, dance, pick-and-speak and drawing competitions. 

Kaliyanda Renu Muthamma (Kodava songs, Pick & Speak), Anusha Kumar (Dance),  Vidyashree (Singing) and  Mukkaty Muthappa (Drawing) were the judges. The event concluded with prize distribution by Machanda Jaya Muthappa. Kodandera Pushpa Machaiah proposed a vote of thanks.

Kodagu Mahila Sangha to hold cultural contests on Apr. 13

Shree Kaveri Kodagu Mahila Sangha, Mysuru, will conduct cultural competitions on Apr.13 (Sunday) at 10.30 am at Kodagu Sahakara Sangha premises in Jayalakshmipuram.

Chowrira Seethamma Kalaiah  will be the chief guest. Kollira Bollamma Kuttappa, President, Shree Kaveri Kodagu Mahila Sangha, will preside.

K. Kavya Kuttappa, Vice – President; K. Bhavani Belliappa, Secretary; M. Jaya Muthappa, Treasurer; A. Tara Somaiah and P. Vimala Poonacha, Joint Secretaries; K. Pushpa Machaiah and K. New Directors elected for Kodagu Sahakara Sangha

Mysuru:  

The new Directors of Kodagu Sahakara Sangha, Jayalakshmipuram, were elected yesterday.

Among the total of 13 directors, two were reserved for women for which Nanjamma and Nirmala were elected unopposed.

For the remaining 11 posts, a total of 14 candidates had contested. Among them, K.G. Sudhir and A.A. Pemmaiah secured 88 votes each. Finally, K.G. Sudhir was elected through draw of lottery.

Others who were elected are M.K. Prakash (127 votes), Lovely Appaiah (119 votes), P.U. Girish (118 votes), M.G. Devaiah (108 votes), Byretira K. Ganapathy (108 votes), K.P. Pemmaiah (105 votes), P.K. Biddappa (96 votes), K.K. Bollamma (95 votes), K. Kavya Kuttappa (95 votes) and M.P. Belliappa (94 votes).

Kodagu Sahakara Sangha election

Kodagu Sahakara Sangha, Mysuru, will be holding its election to Managing Committee for a five-year term at its premises in Jayalakshmipuram on Feb. 22 from 9 am to 4 pm, according to Returning Officer K.L. Savitha.

N.R. Mohalla Sri Kavery Kodava Meet

Mysuru:

The 24th annual get-together of N.R. Mohalla Sri Kavery Kodava Okkoota was held recently at Kodagu Sahakara Sangha in Jayalakshmipuram.

The day-long meet comprised Bolakaat, Kodavaat, sports and cultural programmes.

Chottemanda Geetha Ashok conducted sports while Bolakaat and cultural events were performed under the guidance of Chottemanda Lalu, Deekshitha, Kotera Kushalappa, Kodira Pushpa and Kotera Revathi Kushalappa. Okkoota President Kodira Prakash Nanaiah, Secretary Madetira Sunil Somanna.

Committee Members Bachiranayanda Prasanna, Narapanda Sannu Mandappa, Kotera Suresh Kushalappa, Atrangada Praveen Poovanna, Choteyanda Smitha Poonacha, Balyatanda Sarasu Kushalappa, Chottemanda Lalu Mohan and Ajjinikanda Chittiappa were present.

Annual Get-together held at Ramakrishnanagar I-Block Kodava Assn.

Mysuru:  

The 24th Annual Get-together and Annual Meeting of Ramakrishnanagar I-Block Kodava Welfare Association, Mysuru, was held recently under the Chairmanship of Kodandera Puspha Machaiah at Kodagu Sahakara Sangha in Jayalakshmiopuram.

The Meeting began with invocation by Mundiyolanda Nanda.

Secretary of the Association Kenjangada Kariappa welcomed.

On the occasion, the Association felicitated Kotrangada Jaji Aiyamma for the service she rendered to the community; Deyanda Ganesh Kariappa for the service rendered in the Indian Army and also for the community.

Top scorers in Class 10 CBSE 2024 exams and Degree students were also feted with cash prize.

Annual Report of the Association was presented by Treasurer Kotrangada Appanna. Maletira Ganapathy, Vice President, proposed the vote of thanks.

Kattera A. Nanaiah, Advisor, Codanda Swagath, Joint Secretary and all other Committee Members were present.

Jayalakshmi Kodava Association Felicitates MLA A.S. Ponnanna

Annual get-together event honours two accomplished authors, student achievers from the community

Mysore/Mysuru:

The 18th annual get-together of the Jayalakshmi Kodava Association was held recently at the Kodagu Sahakara Sangha, Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru. Virajpet MLA Ajjikuttira S. Ponnanna was the chief guest.

MLA Ponnanna was honoured with a custom-made marquetry art piece depicting Talacauvery, the birthplace of River Cauvery. Accepting the felicitation, Ponnanna spoke at length about the challenges in Kodagu and his plans for resolving them through active intervention and cooperation from all Kodavas and the people of his Constituency.

The event began with an invocation by Pandiyanda Anil Cariappa. President Ballyanda Uthappa extended a warm welcome to all attendees and presided over the event. During the ceremony, the Association paid their respects to two departed members. They also introduced new members who joined the Association between Aug. 14, 2022 and Aug. 27, 2023.

In a significant decision, the previous year’s committee will continue to function for the years 2023-2024, with Ballyanda P. Uthappa as President, Pandiyanda Girish as Vice-President, Jammada Ganesh Ayanna as Secretary and Mukkatira A. Somaiah as Treasurer.

Two accomplished authors within the community were honoured. Dr. Latha Muthanna received recognition for her third book, ‘The Jail and Other Tales,’ while Dr. Geetha Cariappa Chonira was applauded for her second English storybook ‘Girl with the Diary’ (A Tale from Kodagu).

The achievements of young members were also celebrated. Mukkatira Dia Ponnappa, daughter of Dr. Avinash Ponnappa and Nisha, an 8th-grade student, was acknowledged for her selection to participate in a week-long international debate workshop at Cornell University, New York. The workshop aims to refine oratory skills.

Another young talent, M.J. Devanshi, daughter of Mallangada N. Jayprakash and Swetha, a 7th-grade student, was recognised for her accomplishments in air rifle shooting competitions.

President Ballyanda Uthappa discussed various issues for the betterment of the Association and encouraged members to actively participate, both during good and challenging times. Treasurer Mukkatira Somaiah presented the accounts for the year 2022-2023, which were approved by the general body.

Jammada Ganesh Ayanna introduced the MLA. The event was conducted by Mukkatira Somaiah, with assistance from Codanda Chitra Medappa. A vote of thanks was proposed by Pandiyanda U. Girish. The programme ended with a sumptuous Kodava traditional dinner, fostering wonderful fellowship among all attendees.
