Kodagu jumps to 4th place in SSLC results after 25 students pass in revaluation

Kodagu district, which had grabbed fifth place in the state in Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) results, has now occupied fourth place after a revaluation process.

A total of 25 students who applied for revaluation have passed and the district has attained 82.40%, according to the report by The New Indian Express.

As per the results on May 2, Kodagu was in fifth position in the state with a percentage of 82.21. However, after the revaluation process, the district’s percentage has increased by 0.19, and the district has overtaken Shivamogga in the SSLC results.

A total of 25 students from the district have passed following a revaluation. Among those who applied for revaluation, 11 in Virajpet taluk, 13 in Somwarpet taluk and one student in Madikeri taluk have passed.

Earlier these students were in the failed list. With these 25 students joining the pass list, the district is moving up to the top position with a 0.19 percent increase in the pass percentage.

Meanwhile, supplementary examination is being held in two centers each in three taluks of the district. A total of 68 students have passed but are retaking the examination to improve their performance, as per the report by The New Indian Express.

Apart from these, students who have failed in various subjects are also writing the second examination as repeaters.

Kodava Students Assn – Mysuru hosts hockey tourney

The Kodava Students Association (KSA), Mysuru, recently organised a hockey tournament at Chamundi Vihar Stadium, in Nazarbad, featuring 26 teams.

The two-day event showcased the commitment and unity of Kodava students pursuing higher education in Mysuru.

The tournament commenced on May 3 at 11 am in the presence of Ponjanda Ganapathy, President of Mysuru Kodava Samaja; Jammada Ayyanna, Treasurer of Jabhboomi Charitable Trust and Dr. Mathanda Aiyappa, Director of Brindavan Hospital.

KSA President Motteyanda Ishani Kuttappa presided.

During the ceremony, Jammada Ayyanna briefed the gathering on the ‘5-a-side hockey’ format, while Dr. Mathanda Aiyappa inspired the youths with motivating words, stressing the values of sportsmanship and perseverance. Ponjanda Ganapathy reaffirmed the continued support extended to Kodava students.

The opening day saw 18 matches, followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals and the grand finale on day-2, each match receiving enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.

Axilaratorz HC’ emerged as champions, while Bottiyath Naad, Kunda, finished as runners-up. ‘Blaze A’, Murnad, secured third place, with ‘Blaze B’, Murnad, taking fourth.

Kodagu police take up awareness sessions with students to teach law and order

The police team has visited over 10 schools and colleges in the district to extend legal awareness to the students.

The Kodagu police is devising first-of-its-kind initiatives in the district with legal awareness campaigns conducted across schools and colleges.

Police officers including the SP are also holding interactive sessions with the students. A Cultural Club to promote talent among the police team has also been launched.

The cases of crime against children and crime committed by minors are rising across the country.

The school and college awareness programme was started by the Kodagu police under the guidance of SP K Ramarajan to curb crimes and promote general knowledge of law and order.

So far, the police team has visited over 10 schools and colleges in the district to extend legal awareness to the students.

“We initiated the programme keeping in mind quite a few objectives. Firstly, we want to stop the narcotic abuse among youngsters. Hence, we are conducting elaborate sessions with students (above sixth grade) and are explaining the legal battles they will have to face in case they get involved in narcotic abuse,” explained Ramarajan.

The sessions are also being conducted on cybercrime awareness and the do’s and don’ts that one needs to follow are being explained.

Traffic-related crimes are also being explained to the students even as the police team has readied videos to make students understand the consequences of breaking traffic rules.

“We have shot videos of the family members of the accident victims. We play this to the students to make them aware of the consequences of traffic-related violations and the need to follow safety measures while driving,” he detailed.

Further, the cases of sexual abuse and the need to report them immediately are being highlighted during the interactive sessions.

“We also highlight the concept of how the legal system works. Further, in case they are denied justice, we also make the students aware of the next best approach,” he explained.

From awareness on filing complaints to letting know the consequences of breaking the law, the Kodagu police officers are going the extra mile to ensure a good society.

CIT Ponnampet wins MYCAS Hockey Tournament

Mysuru: 

Coorg Institute of Technology (CIT), Ponnampet, won the State-level Inter-Collegiate Hockey Tournament, organised by MYCAS College in city recently. A total of 9 colleges from across the State participated in the tournament.

CIT, Ponnampet and Anugraha College, Kushalnagar, reached the finals and fought fiercely for the trophy. After scoring 2 goals each in a closely fought final match, the match went to a penalty shoot-out.

CIT won the battle and lifted the trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 while Anugraha College took the second place and received a cash prize of Rs. 7,000 and a trophy. Individual medals were presented to the players. While Best Player award was won by Gokul from Anugraha College, Bevan Ganapathy from CIT bagged Best Goal-keeper award.

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Muruvanda Spoorthi Seethamma, an ultra-marathoner. Chethan, Brown and Abhishek were the referees.

The picturesque Ishwara Temple at Kunda Hills in Ponnampet came alive vibrantly in the drawings made by the Government School students in Kodagu.

It was a fun day out to the students of Gonikoppal Government Model Primary School as the students took part in a scenic hike and later imprinted the natural beauty in their drawing books.

The Ishwara Temple atop Kunda Hills connects one to mythology as it is believed that the Pandavas had taken refuge there. While the rituals unfurl at the temple every year, it has also become a popular hike spot.

With an aim to introduce the scenic beauty and the history of the temple, the school management of Gonikoppal Government Model Primary School arranged a hike for the students.
