Indian badminton star Ashwini Ponnappa announces retirement after playing her ‘last Olympics‘.

Indian badminton stalwart Ashwini Ponnappa on July 30 broke down in tears, announcing she played her last Olympics after she and her partner Tanisha Crasto suffered their third straight loss in the women’s doubles competition of the Paris Games.

Ashwini and Tanisha lost to Australia’s Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu 15-21 10-21 in their final Group C game on Tuesday. They ended their campaign after losing all their three group matches.

“This will be my last, but Tanisha has a long way to go,” said 34-year-old Ashwini, who was playing in her third Olympics, when asked whether she hopes to play in the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

“It takes a toll emotionally and mentally, I can’t go through this again. It is not easy, you can take all these if you are a little younger. Having played for so long, I can’t take it anymore,” she said while trying to hold back tears.

Ashwini, who had won her first national title in 2001, had formed a formidable and history scripting women’s pair with Jwala Gutta, who played till 2017.

They had won many international medals, including a gold medal at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games and bronze at the Uber Cup (2014 and 2016) and the Asian Championships (2014).

In 2011, they scripted history by becoming the first Indian pair to win a medal — a bronze — at the World Championships. That was their biggest prize in their careers. The Jwala-Ashwini pair was consistently ranked among the top 20 in the world and reached 10th spot at one time.

Ashwini and Jwala played in two Olympics together (in 2012 and 2016) but could not go beyond the initial stage.

“We wanted to get a win today. As much as we would have liked the outcome to be different and better, the biggest takeaway I and Tanisha had is we had quite a journey, getting to in the Olympics. It has not been easy,” said Ashwini.

Tanisha also could not control her emotions and she sobbed inconsolably.

“She (Ashwini) has been my biggest support here. We had wanted a better result and held out heads high. She motivated me every time.

Nari Shakti being the theme of India’s 75th Republic Day celebration, the grand parade on Kartavya Path, in the heart of the National Capital, New Delhi, displayed a spectacular combination of military feat and cultural vibrancy on January 26, 2024.

IAF showcased a breath-taking performance with a flypast featuring 51 aircraft during the Republic Day celebrations. This impressive line-up included 29 fighter aircraft, 8 transport planes, 13 helicopters, and one heritage aircraft. When 51 Indian Air Force (IAF) aircrafts zoomed over the Kartavya Path, piloting one of the fighter jets in the flypast was a young woman pilot from Mysuru. Flight Lieutenant (FLT LT) Punya Nanjappa was piloting the MiG-29 fighter and was among the eight female pilots who flew in various formations at the Republic Day parade. It was indeed a proud moment for India.

Breaking barriers is nothing new for Punya Nanjappa. She was the only girl in her batch training with 40 male cadets and the only female cadet from Karnataka to be selected as a trainee pilot for the flying branch training at the Air Force Academy, becoming the second woman from the state of Karnataka to be a fighter jet pilot after Meghana Shanbough from Chikkamagalur to do so. The training for cadets who are selected for the flying branch is divided into three stages. Punya completed Stage 1 training at the academy in Dundigal and was selected to join the fighter stream. Commissioned into the IAF in December 2020, FLT LT Punya is from the No. 47 Squadron of the IAF.

The sky is literally the limit! While choosing a career path, not many students are able to pursue their dreams and turn them into reality. Mysuru-based Coluvanda Punya Nanjappa is one such dreamer who followed her childhood passion to be a fighter jet pilot and worked hard towards achieving it. Not only is it a personal and professional achievement for Punya, but a social one too, a rare distinction for a woman who has her roots in Kodagu, a land of many ‘defence personnel’. Though the district basks in the glory of producing a Field Marshal, a General, and innumerable Lieutenant Generals, Brigadiers, and Majors in the Indian Army and their equal ranks in the Navy and the Air Force, for the first time a woman fighter pilot emerged from the tiny district.

Punya is the daughter of Coluvanda Anuradha Nanjappa, who served as a teacher at St. Joseph’s Central School, Vijayanagar, and the late Coluvanda P. Bala Nanjappa, who held the position of manager at Prabha Theatre. Though the family hails from a small district, they encouraged their daughter to aim high and achieve through hard work and courage.

Punya Nanjappa’s achievement represents a remarkable moment, highlighting the strides made by women in the IAF and representing women-power, equity and equal ownership in every walk of life with their male counterparts.

Nellamakkada Sheela

Obituary

Nellamakkada Sheela (Kullachanda), wife of N.B. Kaverappa of Bharani Art Gallery, Mysuru and a resident of Vivekananda Nagar here, passed away yesterday afternoon in city. She was 71.

A native of Kavadi village in Ammathi, she leaves behind her husband, one son, one daughter and a host of relatives and friends.

Last rites were held at the foot of Chamundi Hill this noon.

Minns names Charishma Kaliyanda as new digital and customer service parliamentary secretary, NSW Australia

NSW Premier Chris Minns has appointed lower house member Charishma Kaliyanda as the state’s new parliamentary secretary for customer service and digital government, emergency services and youth justice, replacing Anthony D’Adam, who was sacked a month ago after labelling the state’s police commissioner a liar.

Elected to Parliament in 2023, Kaliyanda’s appointment comes as Minns and NSW Labor attempt to fend off growing criticism in several parts of Western Sydney that many local members simply don’t reflect the communities in their electorates or make it to junior ministries let alone cabinet.

While there are some high-profile exceptions like Treasurer Daniel Mookhey, Jihad Dib (Kaliyanda’s senior minister) and Industrial Relations Minister Sophie Cotsis, the composition of the first Minns ministry was notable for its Anglo-Celtic weighting.

Community diversity and preselection of state and federal candidates, especially from southwest and western Sydney, have become an increasing friction point across the Australian political spectrum, with Labor losing once safe seats like Fowler to local independent candidates like Dai Le after locals were sidelined for so-called captain’s picks like Kristina Keneally.

Fairfield, where Le whittled down Labor’s margins to just a couple of points as a Liberal state candidate, is somewhat of a case study in how and why migrant communities abandon major parties, with former Fairfield Labor mayor Frank Carbone also quitting his party to run for council on an independent ticket.

You can’t undo years of electoral neglect overnight, but you can make an effort to listen.

Indian diaspora is one of Australia’s fastest-growing migrant communities, now numbering close to 1 million, and the ties are strengthening.

Australia appointed its first consul-general in Bengaluru, Hilary McGeachy, in 2023, adding diplomatic muscle to the massive nation’s south, which includes the states of Karnataka and Telangana.

The capital of Karnataka is Bangalore (population 15 million), which positions itself, for better or for worse, as India’s Silicon Valley.

In an interview with Indian Link , a community publication founded in 1994, Kaliyanda says it “empowers and elevates the South Asian community in Australia, by telling their stories and unpacking their experiences in a nuanced and unbiased manner” reaffirmed her commitment to her community.

“I had thought deeply about what I will wear on my first day as an MP. I wore a blue sari from Karnataka, draped in the Kodava style, with a Waratah broach,” Kaliyanda told the community publication.

“I wanted to share that I will be bringing my whole self to this role and to the Parliament — my commitment to and love for my community in wearing the colours of NSW, and my pride in where I come from and the diversity of my community in wearing a sari specifically from where I was born and in the Kodava style.

“I did struggle with it because there wasn’t really a playbook for what to do and what was expected but I was encouraged to “be myself”, and so I wanted to share my authentic self with our broader community.”

Asked who gave her the best advice for the first time in the bear pit, Kaliyanda told IndianLink: “two Labor Party colleagues, Jihad Dib and Sophie Cotsis, who were very supportive and full of advice.”

“There’s a lot to learn, so take it slow and ask questions as much as you can, Jihad told me,” Kaliyanda said.

This pop-up at the Marriott had more than just the popular pandi curry or Coorgi pork curry. Drawing inspiration from yesteryear and her grandmothers’ kitchen in Coorg, home chef Smitha Kuttayya has made it her mission to keep Coorgi cooking traditions alive.   

In a world where fast food and standardised meals dominate, the value of traditional recipes and cooking methods with a focus on sustainability often seems overshadowed. Yet, for home chef Smitha Kuttayya, these traditions are more than just culinary practices; they are a bridge to the past, a way of preserving memories and cultural identity.

A native of Kodagu now residing in Chennai for 24 years, Chef Kuttayya has excelled in multiple roles throughout her career.

She is a celebrated Bharatanatyam dancer, a compelling writer, a dedicated teacher, an engaging storyteller, a successful entrepreneur, and a passionate home chef.

Each of these roles reflects her commitment to preserving her heritage while enriching her community with diverse talents. Traditional Cuisines In A Modern World

Traditional recipes, she believes, are more than just instructions for making food; they are a tapestry of memories, methods, and values passed down through generations. “These recipes are a bridge to our past,” she says. “They connect us to our ancestors and their way of life, which is why they carry such unique and irreplaceable flavours.” This pop-up at the Marriott had more than just the popular pandi curry (Coorgi pork curry). The buffet had a wide array of dishes like the koli barthad (chicken fry), fish fry (mackarel marinated in spices and kachampuli vinegar), mutton pulav, Kodava chicken curry, and, of course, the pandi curry.

That’s not all. The vegetarians also had a wide selection of dishes that could confuse a Kodava too, as the community is well-known for their non-vegetarian fare. There was raw banana fry, which was made with the same marinade that was used for the fish fry. The baimbale curry or the bamboo shoot curry paired beautifully with the paaputtu (coarse rice semolina cake).

The seasonal kaad maange pajji, the bollari gravy (mangalore cucumber gravy), and the raw jackfruit pulav were a total hit among the diners. For her, maintaining traditional methods means adhering to the authentic ways of preparing and cooking dishes, even when modern shortcuts are available. “In Coorg cuisine, for instance, we don’t use tomatoes in our traditional recipes,” she explains. “We rely on natural souring agents like kachampuli (vinegar made from a fruit called Panapuli) or tamarind, which have been used for generations.”

Local Ingredients: The Heart Of Authenticity

Central to Chef Kuttayya’s approach is her unwavering commitment to local ingredients. For her, these ingredients, like wild mangoes, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, jackfruit, honey, jaggery, etc., are not merely components of a dish but symbols of a region’s cultural and ecological identity. “Local sourcing respects the origin and community, ensuring that what we prepare is a true reflection of our heritage,” she explains.

This philosophy aligns perfectly with her aim to offer an authentic culinary experience. In Chennai, where she has spent a significant part of her career, Chef Kuttayya found a unique demand for traditional Coorg cuisine. “Initially, people in Chennai didn’t have easy access to Coorg dishes like pandi curry, mange pajji, etc., unlike in Bangalore, where the Kodava presence is greater,” she notes. This gap led her to introduce Coorg dishes to a broader audience, not just the Coorg community but also Tamil locals eager to explore new flavours.

Seasonality And Innovation

A profound respect for seasonality guides Chef Kuttayya’s menu planning. She emphasises the use of ingredients at their seasonal peak to enhance flavour and ensure ecological balance. “Seasonal cooking supports local agriculture and ensures that what we eat is both delicious and sustainable,” she asserts. By aligning her cooking with the natural rhythms of the seasons, she fosters a deeper connection between the food and its source. “Most of our special ingredients are available only during the monsoon,” she explains. “We adapt our menu to make the most of these ingredients when they are freshest and most flavourful.”

Her wisdom of traditional cooking and baking with seasonal ingredients, intricately woven with sustainable practices, has evolved her style of cooking over the years. This time around, she presented a few dishes that could qualify as modern Kodava cuisine, like the coffee-infused chilly chicken dish, the monkey oranges and bird’s eye chilli sauce from her farm, or the coffee mayonnaise made with avocado and coffee, which was a pairing for one of the meat tarters. In her buffet, there was neer dose paired with organic jaggery and coconut, which is a classic combination. But during her pop-up tour at Marriott, she introduced neer dose alongside figs and bird’s eye chilli preserve that she prepared herself from the figs that grew plenty at her home.

While preserving tradition, Chef Kuttayya also embraces evolution in her culinary practices. She believes that traditional dishes can evolve while maintaining their core essence, making them appealing to contemporary tastes. “It’s about balancing tradition with innovation,” she notes. “You can introduce new flavours and techniques without losing the soul of the dish.” Her innovative takes include adapting traditional Coorg dishes with locally available ingredients when necessary. “Innovation doesn’t mean discarding tradition; it means enhancing it,” she asserts.

Sustainability In Tradition

The sustainable practices inherent in traditional cooking are another aspect that Chef Kuttayya values highly. “Traditional cooking relies on local, seasonal ingredients and minimal waste practices, showcasing a way of life that modern kitchens can learn from,” she states. This approach not only reduces the carbon footprint but also supports local agriculture and ecosystems, making it a model for sustainable cooking in today’s world. This dedication extends to her personal cooking practices as well.

“Every vegetable or meat that we use for cooking, I make sure it is completely utilised. Nothing goes to waste and if there is something that can’t be used, it always composts. That’s a farmer’s way. We barely use oil in our cooking. When it is meat, especially, it cooks in its own fat. I do not waste anything and there is no other way that I can do it. “I buy only organic ingredients and test everything myself. I don’t even delegate it to the help in the house,” she says with a smile.

“I’m very particular about my ingredients and the way I prepare my dishes,” she notes. “Whether it’s a pop-up event or a one-on-one cooking class, I ensure that the methods and ingredients reflect the true essence of traditional cuisine.” Her commitment to sustainability extends beyond the kitchen to her packaging choices. “I use only tin and tiffin boxes for packaging, avoiding plastic entirely; even the baking sheets I use are organic,” she says. “It may cost more, but it aligns with my values of sustainability and respect for the environment.

HCL National Squash Championship: Abhay Singh, Velavan Senthilkumar, Joshna Chinappa clinch gold

Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar clinched a gold medal in the men’s doubles category with a commanding 2-0 victory in the HCL Nationals Doubles Championship here on Wednesday (May 15).

In the women’s doubles category, Pooja Arthi and Rathika Seelan secured the top spot with a thrilling 2-1 win. Abhay Singh teamed up with Joshna Chinappa to clinch gold in the mixed doubles category.

The HCL Nationals Doubles Championship, a collaborative effort between HCL and the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI), concluded with resounding success at the Indian Squash Academy in Chennai from May 13th to May 15th, 2024.

Marking a significant milestone in India’s squash history, this event, part of the HCL Squash Podium Program, revived the Doubles Squash Championship after a hiatus of 17 years.

The winners were honoured by esteemed dignitaries, including Chief Guest Dr Atulya Misra, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Government, and Thulasimathi Murugesan, the gold medalist from the Asian Para Games 2022, who graced the finale ceremony as the guest of honour.

India’s recent success in doubles squash on the international stage, particularly at the Asian Games, served as a catalyst for HCL to reintroduce the Doubles Squash Championship. This initiative aimed to inject renewed enthusiasm into the sport and provide a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills in doubles play.

Rajat Chandolia, AVP and Head of Brand at HCL, expressed delight at the enthusiastic participation of squash players in the championship. He congratulated all the winners and participants, highlighting HCL’s commitment to supporting Indian players and elevating squash to new heights through initiatives like the Squash Podium Program.

Cyrus Poncha, Secretary General of SRFI, hailed the resurgence of doubles squash in India, attributing it to the collaborative efforts of SRFI and HCL. He stressed upon the significance of nurturing talented players and expressed confidence in the bright future of Indian squash.

“I am truly excited to see the renaissance of doubles squash in India, thanks to the mutual efforts of SRFI and HCL. It was truly thrilling to see the clashes between the double pairs. I believe that Indian Squash has a bright future and the stars of tomorrow will emerge from these events. Our association with HCL has been monumental for the sport and our combined efforts will continue to nurture talented players,” said Poncha.

Abhay Singh, who emerged victorious in both the men’s and mixed doubles categories, expressed his gratitude to HCL and SRFI for organising the championship. Looking ahead, he expressed determination to excel at the Asian Doubles Championship in Malaysia.

Abhay Singh, said, “I have always been interested in playing in the doubles category. I thank HCL and SRFI for organising this championship after a long time in India. I have played with Velavan in Commonwealth but this was my first time playing doubles with Joshna. It is such an honour to team up with her. I was sure that I would win in both categories but now it’s time to win gold at the Asian Doubles Championship in Malaysia.”

The championship showcased gripping matches, including the finals contested by pairs such as Abhay Singh & Velavan Senthilkumar, Rahul Baitha & Suraj Chand in the men’s category, Pooja Arthi & Rathika Seelan, and Janet Vidhi & Nirupama Dubey in the women’s category, and Abhay Singh & Joshna Chinappa, and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu & Rathika Seelan in the mixed doubles category.

The HCL National Doubles Championship not only celebrated sporting excellence but also marked a significant step forward in the resurgence of doubles squash in India, promising an exciting future for the sport and its talented athletes.

Preparing for third Olympics at 34, Ashwini Ponnappa in no mood to slow down

The badminton star says that she is grateful to have an opportunity to aim for an Olympic gold at this point in her career.

Ashwini Ponnappa has been around for a long while now but the 34-year-old has no plans of slowing down. Preparing for her third Olympics in a sport as demanding as badminton can be gruelling. To do so in doubles, with a partner almost 15 years younger, is unheard of. Ashwini isn’t bothered.

Ashwini missed the Tokyo Olympics but with Tanisha Crasto, is currently the highest-ranked Indian women’s doubles pair in the world and on top of the race to the World Tour Finals.

Having burst into the limelight after winning a historic gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in front of home crowds (with Jwala Gutta) for her maiden senior international title, it’s been an eventful career for Ashwini.

“I think having the CWG in India was the biggest game-changer because there was media and public attention on all sports, not just one or two. And winning in front of the home crowd put doubles in the spotlight because till then, it used to only be about singles. People started viewing doubles as a specialised event after that,” she acknowledged.

“It’s been quite a journey, having started alongside Jwala who was already an established player then and well-known on the national and international scene as a specialised doubles player. I think I got lucky because partnering with her meant that I got to play in the big league at a very young age. I have had different partners along the way and now am with someone who is 14 years younger – I never would have thought back then that something like this would happen. But it’s been an exciting journey since we got together,” she added.

Challenges

The longevity has not been without challenges but a bout of dengue in 2016 triggered a complete turnaround in her training ethos and methods.

“Even though I have had physical ups and downs, I have always been motivated. Being physically fit is most essential to be playing at this level but being mentally motivated is equally important. You cannot have one without the other. That’s something I am very stubborn about – I will not listen to just anyone, I am very fussy about my training.

“I have been training with Deckline Leitao since 2016 and that’s been a game-changer. As you get older, your approach to physical fitness is very critical. It also means that if my coach says back off or slow down, I will listen. When you are younger, you can have the hardest workouts throughout the year. But as you get older, it is important to know when to back off and not keep pushing” she explained.

And while they are equal partners on the court, Ashwini admits it took time to build an understanding with Tanisha. “It’s definitely evolved because initially there was a barrier because of the fact that I am super senior and she is up and coming, the comfort level did take time to get to and, to be honest, there is still a lot of space for improvement but it’s work in progress. I don’t think there is any other pair with this level of age gap on the circuit.

“It’s nice to play with someone who has got a really long way ahead of her. I love her enthusiasm and the curiosity of going for big tournaments,” she admitted.

The senior pro in her does come rear up occasionally, she laughed but insisted she tries to avoid being a nag.

“I don’t think there is pressure of being a senior but I just end up being kind of a mentor. It’s not like I go out and try to be a senior or didi as Tanisha calls me – I don’t want to be – but I end up being one because of what I have seen over the years and can’t help but guide here and there when you see certain things. Fortunately, she has been open enough to listen to me giving her advice now and then,” she said.

The anime universe is about to get a touch of Indian cinema flair as Rashmika Mandanna gears up to make her mark at the prestigious Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024. Scheduled to take place on March 2 in Tokyo, Japan, the event will see Rashmika as a presenter.

In a historic feat, the Animal actress will be the first Indian to represent India at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards. Rashmika will join an illustrious lineup of presenters at the event, including American pop sensation Megan Thee Stallion, Dallas Cowboys star DeMarcus Lawrence, and wrestling phenomenon Mercedes Varnado, known as Sasha Banks.

Meanwhile, Rashmika was spotted at the airport as she jetted off to Tokyo to attend the coveted awards ceremony. Dressed in a green-coloured top which she paired with black pants, Rashmika acknowledged the paparazzi as she rushed to catch her flight.

The news of Rashmika’s representation at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards has sent waves of excitement through her fanbase and the anime community alike. Rashmika has often expressed her love for anime, citing Naruto Shippuden as her personal favourite.

The Crunchyroll Anime Awards is an annual extravaganza that celebrates the best of the anime world, from series to films and voice actors. It serves as a platform to honour the creativity and artistry behind this beloved genre, attracting fans and industry professionals from across the globe.

The Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024 will be held on Saturday, March 2.

On the work front, Rashmika has been shooting for Dhanush’s DNS (D51) in Hyderabad. She also has Pushpa 2 in her kitty.

Career spanning over three decades has been recognised: Joshna Chinappa on Padma Shri honour

Squash star Joshna Chinappa was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in recognition for her contribution to the sport and to India.

Recognition– both national and international– isn’t elusive to sports star Joshna Chinappa. A Commonwealth Games gold medalist, a WSF World Doubles Champion, a two-time Asian Individual Champion, and the winner of five Asian Games medals… the list goes on. Adding another feather to her cap, squash player has now been awarded India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri, in recognition for her contribution to the sport and to India.

One of Indian squash’s most successful players, Chinappa was ranked world number 10 in the professional squash circuit. The 37-year-old is also the first Indian to win the British Junior Squash Championship in 2005 in the Under 19 category. Chinappa has won the national squash championship for a record 18 times, which is the highest by an Indian player.

With so many achievements in hand, Chinappa is a proud ambassador for her sport and for India. While one may wonder if the Padma Award was long due, Chinappa humbly responds with, “I think the timing is just right.” Now that squash is being included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, Chinappa is excited about the possibilities that await.

In an email interaction Joshna Chinappa gets candid with South First about the award, what it means, and preparing for LA28.

Excerpts from the interview.

You have had a fabled career, and you are one of the most prominent faces of squash in the country. Do you think the Padma award was long due?

I feel extremely humbled and honoured to be given the Padma Shri. I think the timing is great! It feels nice that my career spanning over three decades has been recognised and appreciated. 

What role has Chennai played in your growth as an athlete?

Chennai has been a big catalyst for me to pursue squash professionally. My dad introduced me to the game. He was my coach for a very long time. Besides, the squash federation is based in Chennai. That helped me to have access to good coaches and a structured training program.

Could you give us a peek into the role of your coach in shaping your career?

My dad was my main coach for many years. I have worked with some solid coaches throughout the last two decades and all have contributed significantly in their own way.  

How are you preparing for LA28? 

It’s wonderful that squash is in LA 2028! I look forward to being fit and injury free!

Squash has finally made it to the Olympics, what does it mean for veterans like you? Do you think your career would have been different had it been included as an Olympic sport earlier?

Obviously. When it’s an Olympic sport, the financial support and encouragement is completely different from the government as well as the corporates. I do feel it would have made a huge difference especially in motivating more kids to take up squash and consider it as a career.

How are you preparing to compete with top seed players who are younger? 

Squash is already a challenging sport physically. So, competing with the younger lot makes it exciting and harder on the body. I think training smart is the key. 

How do you feel about the popularity of squash in India? What can be done to attract more people to the game?

The sport has definitely gotten a lot more popular in the last few years. We have been consistently winning medals at the CWG and Asian games. We need to have more infrastructure, qualified coaches and financial support given to the younger kids, so that they can focus on playing and training comfortably.

Almost all sports persons talk about focussing on the process, and not the outcome, while playing the sport. And yet, when the outcome is not favourable, there is a natural disappointment. How do you pick yourself up after a not-so-great game?

I personally enjoyed the grind of training and preparing for an event. But it’s with the purpose to win a medal , so it is incredibly disappointing to not be able to pull that off on certain days. That’s what sport is, you won’t have your way all the time despite all the work you put in, but you have to find a way to come out of it and keep working harder, never giving up and eventually the wins will come. 

What runs in your mind while in the heat of a game? How do you train your mind to face both healthy and unhealthy competition?

I try to focus on my game plan with each opponent. Sometimes when that doesn’t happen, I focus on the basics, one shot at a time.  I do a lot of mental work too which is equally important as the physical aspect. Also surrounding yourself with the right people and team can help cut out the unnecessary noise. 

How do you unwind?

Since my day is scheduled with training and recovery. On my off days, I really like to do nothing. I do play a lot of other sports which I enjoy and also, I read a bit.
