Commenting on Chief Minister D K Shivakumar’s recent visit to the coastal belt, Wadiyar described the region as a stronghold of the BJP and criticised the government’s track record.

Mysore-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar urged the Karnataka State government to extend official language status to Kodava and Arebhashe in Kodagu district, similar to the recognition granted to Tulu as a second additional official language in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Addressing a press conference, in Mysuru, on Saturday, Wadiyar welcomed the decision to grant recognition to the Tulu language, but demanded equal efforts from the government towards preservation and promotion of Kodagu’s native languages.

Responding to plans to hold Kambala, traditional buffalo race of the coastal region, during Mysuru Dasara festivities, the MP said, “Knowing fully well that we would object to organising Kambala as part of Mysuru Dasara, they are still pushing it forward, attempting to create division among us. We are neither anti-coastal nor anti-Kambala. Instead of bringing it here, the government should support and enrich the sport in the coastal region itself, by allocating necessary funds”.

“Merely announcing schemes and projects is not enough. Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made several announcements in the past as well, but none of them saw actual implementation,” he alleged.
